Independence Municipal Court

The Independence Municipal Court sits on the first floor of City Hall at 111 E Maple Ave, Independence, MO 64050. This court deals with city ordinance violations only. It does not hear civil lawsuits, small claims, or family law cases. Those go to the Jackson County Circuit Court instead. The municipal court has two judges: Garry L. Helm serves as Presiding Judge, and Susan Watkins is the second judge on the bench.

Court hours run Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM. The court is closed on Fridays. Keep in mind there is a lunch break from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM when the office shuts down. The cashier window closes at 4 PM, so plan to get there well before that if you need to pay a fine or post bond. Independence Civil Court Records Online
